Philip Bernick, PhD
Philip, is a senior consultant with McCulley/Cuppan LLC, and recently a consultant to Arizona State University (ASU) in the School of Computing and Informatics. He has taught courses in Rhetoric, Technical and Scientific Writing, Writing Technologies and Disciplinary Discourses, and contributed to Informatics degree program and course development. As Communication Technology Advisor to the Center for Nano-technology and Society at ASU he has designed and implemented technology platforms for understanding perceptions and developing policy. Philip has a long-standing interest in scientific rhetoric and professional communication, especially as it relates to complex, task-oriented documents and habitability.
Philip’s focus on computer-supported collaborative work is directed to enabling effective knowledge elicitation, capture, propagation, and reuse locally and at a distance. His experience in knowledge management helps people and organizations identify, retain, and share key knowledge. Philip’s expertise extends to best practices in documentation and document quality management, helping individuals and organizations improve the quality (outcomes-based effectiveness) of documents for internal and external application.
Philip’s work in knowledge and document management is informed by 9+ years working for organizations involved with pharmaceutical R&D; associated genres include: Standard Operating Procedures, Clinical Study Reports, Method Validation Studies, Safety Analyses, Protocols, and Marketing Applications. His work as a software developer, researcher and project manager also informs his approach to knowledge management. This work has included software system and interface research and development (R&D) for natural (human) language processing tools used by language analysts, instructors, and students (Computing Research Lab, New Mexico), as well as interactive digital technologies for new media (Vidiom Systems, Colorado; Canal+ Technologies, California and France).
Gregory P. Cuppan
Mr. Cuppan is the Managing Principal of McCulley/Cuppan LLC, a group he co-founded. Mr. Cuppan has spent 25 years working in the life sciences with 15 years providing consulting and training services to pharmaceutical and medical device companies and research enterprises. He has helped clients address concerns ranging from those associated with authoring and reviewing documents to those implicit in planning, developing, and coordinating clinical research and product development projects. Mr. Cuppan’s principal focus is with the development and refinement of document management processes and practices used on large complex documents, such as clinical research protocols, study reports, and regulatory submission documents. Mr. Cuppan has personally worked with more than 40 companies and academic institutions in the US, Europe, and Japan.
